BRIAN BUTLER
WE PERCEIVE THINGS THAT ARE CURRENTLY GOING ON AROUND US IN A LIGHT THAT IS STILL DIM; AND YET, IN OUR LANGUAGE, A STRANGE MOVEMENT CAN BE DISCERNED. LITERATURE, IN ITS TURN, IS SLOWLY BECOMING A LANGUAGE WHOSE SPEECH STATES, AT THE SAME TIME AS WHAT IT SAYS, AND AS PART OF THE SAME MOVEMENT, THE LANGUAGE THAT MAKES IT DECIPHERABLE AS SPEECH.
Brian Butler is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the domains of ritual, sound, and cinema. As the representative of the Kenneth Anger estate, he curates and expands one of the most influential legacies in experimental film and esoteric media.
His performances and films have been presented internationally, including at Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Athens Biennale, and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles), where he performed live in collaboration with Anger. As a musician, Butler has recorded and performed with artists including Rozz Williams (Christian Death), Von LMO, and Moving Units.
His current work explores sonic architecture, cinematic invocation, and the evolution of magick as a contemporary art form.
